Gary James Merrill is a freelance writer, academic and professional trainer. As a journalist Gary specialises in politics, business, the news media and travel, and his work has been published in the Guardian, the Independent, the Daily Telegraph, the Taipei Times, the Big Issue and elsewhere.
The first half of Gary's professional life was spent working in and writing about the technology industry. For much of the second half, he taught journalism at British universities - including seven years at Cardiff University - and in 2015 he completed a PhD in economic and business journalism at Goldsmiths, University of London.
A native of the north-west, Gary has spent his adulthood in southern England and Cardiff, with six month stints in Massachusetts and Taiwan. Despite his travels, he remains an irrational - but loyal - supporter of Crewe Alexandra.
